Thanks for attending Ladies' Lab Night at Portland State University!

What is Ladies' Lab Night?
Ladies' Lab Night is an event where we invite young women in the Portland community who are interested in science to meet with the women doing research in PSU’s biology, chemistry, geology, and physics labs. Attendees are able to learn about the amazing work the women in science at PSU are doing, make valuable connections, and see what a career in science might look like.
Who can come?
Everyone! This event is all gender inclusive and everyone is encouraged to bring their non-female friends and family along. We want to have everyone have respect for the wide diversity of people who make up the scientific community!
Please keep in mind that this event is aimed at young women who are high school students or older. We want everyone to see the great science that women are doing at PSU, but we respectfully ask you to leave your younger children at home. The labs you will be touring are filled with large, fragile equipment, and lots of glass! So for safety and liability reasons, we want to avoid any mishaps caused by your extra-curious little ones. We appreciate your understanding!

Ladies' Lab Night 2018
The main event meeting area will be on the second floor lobby of the Science Research and Teaching Center (SRTC). We will have different “zones” for each of the four disciplines represented - biology, chemistry, geology, and physics, but hopefully attendees will easily see that there are no defined lines along these areas of research. Each lab represented will have some information about what they do, be it a poster, 3D printed models, or even live experiments, and all of the researchers sharing their work, both graduate and undergraduate, will be women.
The event space lobby is also home to a permanent collection of large animal skeletons and taxidermy birds, on loan from the Portland State Natural History Museum.

We will also be giving tours of a select number of research labs - one from each represented discipline. Three sessions are scheduled throughout the night, and attendees will be able to choose from a number of activities or tours, in any order they choose. On these tours, participants can see where real science gets done, learn more about the research the lab does, and get a more in depth view of the life of a scientist. Each tour will conclude with the participants receiving a ticket, and collecting three tickets (from attending all three tours) will earn them a Ruby Jewel ice cream sandwich at the end of the night.
Salad from Green Zebra, and Pizza from Hot Lips will be served at 5 pm!

2018 Event Directions
The event will be held on the second floor of the Science Research and Teaching Center (SRTC), on the PSU campus, which is located at 1719 SW 10th Ave in downtown Portland. Parking is Pay to Park (city owned), so it is free after 7 pm. There should be plenty of spaces in the surrounding park blocks, but please keep in mind you might have to walk a few blocks to get to the event. The Portland Streetcar (all lines) also goes right to the heart of campus, and drops off a few blocks from SRTC. Entering "SRTC" on Google Maps should give you the right directions!
The building’s main entrance is facing the corner of SW 10th and Montgomery, and is across the street from the Vue Apartments, Rogue Brewery, Starbucks, and Subway. To reach the second floor, walk up the outside stairs, through the front doors and straight ahead to catch the elevator, or go right up the staircase in the main lobby when you first walk in. If you look up and see the skeleton of a baby blue whale, you're in the right place! There will be signs and posters directing attendees as well. Please find below a photo of the main entrance to the SRTC building and a PSU campus map.
Note: If you're having trouble reading this map, check out this interactive PSU campus map, and search for SRTC
I want to go!
That's wonderful news! We will have a 2019 RSVP poll available shortly, so you can let us know you're coming and we can have an estimate on turnout. Please only fill out one RSVP per party!
I want to help!
We're glad to hear it! If you're involved in STEM at PSU and you'd like to run a session, please fill out the Session Volunteer form. We'll have a form for all other volunteers soon.
